I very recently received an “invitation” to join Ravelry, a knit and crochet community.  The invitation was not sent randomly….no.  I submitted my email address and requested an invite.  I checked my “in box” hourly over the next several days, wishing and hoping that it would arrive soon (sort of like waiting for the van and balloons from the Publishers Clearing House on Superbowl Sunday).  Well, unlike PCH, it did indeed arrive and I couldn’t have been more excited!  This website is a mecca of ideas and inspiration, and many of the patterns shared are available as free downloads.  I spent countless hours clicking through all the pattern tags—afghans, mittens, socks…dishcloths.  Yes, dishcloths.  Until I clicked on that tag, all of mine came from Marshalls or HomeGoods.  Those days are gone.  I swapped some yarn with a friend (she had a great cotton stash), and I got busy knitting washcloths.

The yarn I used was Patons Bumble Bee baby cotton and I worked on (U.S. 6) needles.  I found the stitch patterns in The New Knitting Stitch Library and I kept the stitch count to around 45, depending on the multiple that went with the pattern.  They each measure approximately 8″ square.

If you happen to be on my Christmas gift list, it might be in your best interest to let me know your favorite soap or shower gel.  I have cotton, and I have “over 300 traditional and innovative stitch patterns”.
