Pink Daisy Cake

I am fortunate to belong to the “Bayberry Babes”, a small group of lovely ladies who take time to care, share and celebrate each other’s birthday with dinner at a favorite restaurant, a little wine, and lots of laughs!  We’re meeting tomorrow night, and it’s my turn to bake the cake.

This was my very first attempt at Wilton gum paste flowers.  I happened to see the technique demonstrated on a “you-tube” video, and it peaked my interest.  My dear friend, Teresa, baker extraordinaire, bought the kit and was a step ahead of me.  Her robust enthusiasm and assurance that I would love it gave me the push I needed to get started.  And now, there’s no turning back.  In addition to the kit, I purchased a pouch of Wilton ready-to-use gum paste, and it wasn’t long before I was creating these sweet little flowers.  The book includes detailed instructions to make daffodils, tulips, apple blossoms, carnations, pansies (there’s more) and, my personal favorite, roses…which look like they’ll take lots of practice!

As gorgeous as these blooms can be, there is one little downside.  I think the gum paste tastes awful.  So, my friends will be warned.

“Please, please, don’t eat the daisies.”

  1. I was hoping to see a cake as I was checking in…looks almost too good to eat! My robust enthusiasm is outdone by your talent!
