This sweater was supposed to be a birthday gift for little a, and I intended to present it to her back in March.  But, here it is, October, and I just stitched on the last little button.  It’s not that the sweater actually took me 7 months to knit.   It’s just that I have a long history of being very enthusiastic at the start of a project and then, who knows why (the wind blows the wrong way), I put it aside, and it becomes a huge effort for me to complete it.  Such was the story with this Owl Sweater.

The really good news is that, as you can see, I finished it and little a just LOVES it…or at least she is wise enough to know that there would never be another sweater for her if she did not show her delight by doing multiple back-flips.

I bought the pattern on Ravelry, and it was not terribly complicated to follow.  The most tedious task was stitching the 34 little buttons onto where the eyes should be.  (I’d rather drink sour milk than sit there and sew on all those little buttons.  At one point, I totally considered using a hot glue gun.  After all, Martha uses hers for everything!!)  The yarn was from Knitpicks; Wool of the Andes bulky in “navy”.  It was a true “navy”, but my camera lens didn’t see it quite that way.

Back-flips are cheap.  If you happen to spend time with her, and you never see little a wearing this sweater, I want to hear about it.

Seriously.

Thanks, Cybele! It’s nice to know that I’m not alone in my dread of sewing buttons. If I decide to give the “hot-glue” idea a try, I’ll let you know how it works out!
