Here’s  a small sampling of the Easter cutout cookies that took me 10 hours to decorate yesterday.  There were 54.  When all was said and done, I did a little internet research to look for any shortcuts that would help get me out of the kitchen sooner.  Turns out, Sweetopia offers some sample schedules to help with cookie decorating efficiency.  I do bake the cookies a day or two in advance, but I didn’t realize that I can also prepare and color the royal icings a day or two ahead.  (who knew?)  Well, there’s always next time!

The sugar cookie recipe, once again, is from SweetSugarBelle, and the royal icing is from CK.  I’ve been experimenting with icing consistency, trying to get it just right, and I think I’m closer than ever.  Correct icing consistency is the be-all and end-all to decorating sugar cookies.  SugarBelle’s blog provides invaluable recipes, tips, techniques and tutorials.  If you have any interest in decorating sugar cookies, that’s the place to start.

Notice the snow sparkle luster dust?  It’s an addiction that I just won’t break!

How do you like the oval platter?  I fell in love with it at a Hallmark store!!  I usually find my prettiest ones at Marshalls or HomeGoods, but I walked into Hallmark and this sweet little platter was staring at me.  $16.95 for the cute factor and a smile on my face?  You bet.

After Easter, I’m pretty sure this platter will become kitchen wall art.

Does it make you smile?

You’re killin’ me with all the wonderful baked goods! First I thought, “when was the last time I had good Irish soda bread?”. Then I thought “Yum! I wonder what happened to my mother’s checkerboard cake pan.” Now I’m thinking I just might need a plane ticket to help devour those beautiful Easter cookies … to show off the cookie platter of course. Anything I can do to help ;).

I’m sure there will be plenty of lovin’ coming from your brand new oven VERY soon! Until then, I hear that Delta has some pretty good airfares. Book it Dano.

Hey there! I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and
finally got the bravery to go ahead and give you a shout out from Huffman
Texas! Just wanted to say keep up the excellent job!

Happy to hear from you and SO glad that you’ve written!! I, too, can be shy about leaving comments for other, so I totally understand your apprehension. Now that you’ve done it, though, leaving a comment will be MUCH easier 😉
Not sure where Huffman is, but I used to live in Fort Worth. We loved Texas, but our family roots were back east. I’ve been busy with a wedding the past couple of months, but I’ll be posting soon and look forward to hearing from you again!
