The little mateys that I care for during the school year know that June signals party time, and this year’s theme was Jake and the Neverland Pirates.  It’s a great animated Disney show that the kids enjoy tremendously, complete with catchy sing-along tunes.

I thought about making “Jake” cupcakes but when my friend, Jen, suggested a treasure chest cake, it was a no-brainer:

I found the complete directions, which were super easy to follow, here.  My treasures and decorations came from the local dollar store and, yes…my treasures got the best of me, causing me to overstuff the cake (just a wee bit).

Shiver me timbers!

The kids were in awe of the party table, complete with treasure chest pinata, “captain hooks”, the Jake and the Neverland Pirates soundtrack, and all the matching tableware.  But, me hearties totally LOVED these best:

and so did I!  Little stuffed Jake, Scully and TicToc…all from K-mart.  I cut 2″ strips of red knit fabric (no sewing required) and tied them around the little pirates’ heads to resemble the bandana that Jake wears.

The walls, doors and mirrors were decorated with these great removable wall decals:

We also decorated with coloring pages that I downloaded from the Disney website:

It was a looooong, but happy, adventure!

After dismissal, I poured myself a Frosty Ale (aka rootbeer float) and stuffed my face with leftover Pirate’s Booty.

Yo, ho, ho!

I (almost but not really) want to have a little one again so I can pop them into your daycare…you are such an awesome caregiver! 🙂
