I hate to preface, but let me start this post by saying that, when it comes to things for baby (and most other things), I’m pretty traditional. I love pink for a baby girl, blue for a baby boy, and soft whites and creams are always classic. As for motifs? Well, I like roses and cupcakes and teddies and bows and puppies… That’s just me. But, since this is not my baby, and the baby’s mom just adores those skulls and crossbones, I didn’t think I could miss with this baby pirate hat.
I found the pattern in 60 Quick Baby Knits*. This book has many, many cute knits and inspiring projects, and I knew this pattern was perfect the moment I turned the page. The book features Cascade 220 Superwash yarn, so that is what I purchased. NICE yarn.
Since I always like to do a little something-to-go-with-it, I stitched up some burp cloths:
VERY easy project! If you can sew a straight line, you can knock yourself out stitching ribbon to Gerber pre-fold cloth diapers. If you can’t sew a straight line, do as I did and set the machine dial to a narrow zig-zag stitch. As long as the ribbon is machine washable, you’re good to go. This ribbon came from Michael’s and, at this time of year (lucky for me), skulls and crossbones abound.
I’m totally thrilled to present this little gift…even if it is a wee bit non-traditional. (just a weeeee baby bit)
I cut the B-A-B-Y letters with my handy dandy Cricut, and I’ll attach them to the gift after it is wrapped.
