The question Big A and I try to answer on this blog is “What are you making today?”

Well, today, I’m making two things — excuses and plans.

My excuse for not posting in a while is that, once again, I’m moving to a new apartment. Six years in New York and this will be my sixth apartment. I know to most people this sounds like hell. It is. But you gotta do what you gotta do to make it in this town, and if you don’t want to live with a crazy person you didn’t know was crazy until she almost stabbed you over peanut butter, or you don’t want to have to slaughter whole civilizations of ants every time you go into your bathroom, or you don’t want to walk up 5 flights of stairs to get your forgotten wallet, then you gotta move until you get it right.

So, I’m hoping that the sixth time is the charm. This place boasts a great location, a big kitchen (did you know that some apartments in NYC have half-ovens? They are half the size of regular ovens, and people find this acceptable. Try baking cookies in one of those… it’s like living on Survivor…), a washer and dryer (OMG!!! Sayonara, laudromat!!), plenty of space, good light, great roommates, and… ::deep breathe:: … are you ready?

A SEWING ROOM.

I’m going to have a sewing room…

OK, it’s only about 6′ x 10′, so it’s more of a sewing alcove than a sewing room, but, it has doors, and it is an extra space that will be dedicated to my sewing machine and my fabric stash, so I’m calling it a sewing room. I might also call it the “den of awesome”, but we’ll see… Now, if you’ve never experienced cramped city-living, it may be hard for you to understand just how exciting this is. So I shall try to adequately express my excitement in the traditional internet way: caps-lock and exclamation points.

I’M GOING TO HAVE A SEWING ROOM!!!!!!! I’M GOING TO HAVE A SEWING ROOM!!!! HOLY CRAP I’M GOING TO HAVE A SEWING ROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAAAAAAA A SEWING ROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT KIND OF ROOM???? YOU HEARD ME! A SEWING ROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Get it now, Ohio?)

So, I’m making plans for this sewing room. Fabric organization, work surface preparation, iPod connectivity, decor, new projects… it’s not just a new apartment, it’s a whole new world. I just bought some new fabrics, too (like I needed them…) and I have lots of new ideas that I can’t wait to have spread out and waiting for me when I get home every day to work on.  So I’m happy to be packing up and moving on, even if it does mean going through all that hassle, expense, and back-breaking labor. I guarantee you when I’m humming along on my machine, rocking out to Led Zeppelin in my “den of awesome”, I’ll have forgotten that I ever lived anywhere else in this town.
